Have you caught on with the new craze yet? Pickleball is sweeping the world as the new hit alternative sport to tennis, squash, or table tennis. Almost mashing together tennis and table tennis, the new hit sport has swept the world from Washington onwards, even reaching as far as where Hog Roast Huntingdon had the privilege of hosting dining for a fun-filled local tournament.
Seeing as it originated as an American style sport, our Hog Roast Huntingdon chefs thought it only suited that our catering play into the influence of it all by serving up our very own American inspired menu: our delicious Southern Slow Roast.
Despite it’s smaller court, pickleball clearly takes up a lot of energy which is why it was handy that our chefs had a huge selection of roasted foods ready for the players coming off the court after the incredible tournament wrapped up. To coincide with a quick ceremony for the big winners in both the singles and doubles brackets, the Hog Roast Huntingdon team got to unveiling our delicious selection of foods: sticky Louisiana style pork ribs, Texan 24-hour beef brisket, Cajun spiced whole roast chickens, the all-American classic mac and cheese, potato salad, mixed roast veggies, some gourmet sausages and burgers, and even a smaller hog roast for pulled pork toppings to rolls and wraps. More than enough to get to refuelling after a hard working but fun-filled day of pickleball!
In between cooking and serving, our chef and serving team even managed to get onto the court for a moment at the insistence of the tournament organisers that called us up originally. We won’t say how the mini game work, but what we can say is that we probably won’t be giving up the day job anytime soon…. Hog roasting remains more our speed, and a spatula and a wooden spoon our utensils instead of a wooden paddle.
It was an excellent day out all the same, and we can certainly see the appeal of the sport that is taking over the world. As long as it creates all the more reasons to enjoy delicious Hog Roast Huntingdon catering, then the arrival of pickleball is perfectly fine in our books!
