Hog Roast Marh starts the Halloween treats

Did you know that Halloween was originally celebrated by the Celts and was known as the festival of Samhain? The festival involved bonfires and people wearing costumes to ward off ghosts that they believed returned to earth as the worlds of the living and dead became blurred. Additionally, the 31st of October marked the start of the colder weather, darkness and end of harvest. It was therefore associated with death as people struggled in these colder months with staying warm and finding food. Halloween has evolved overtime to how we celebrate it today with fun activities and yummy treats.

Hog Roast MarhHog Roast Marh does many Halloween events each year, it is a great excuse for a party with tasty food! Hannah decided to throw a Halloween party for her 16-year-old daughter. It gave her daughter something to look forward after her dreaded mock exams. Rather than having a typical Halloween costume party, Hannah had done a themed party of ‘red’ where each guest had to wear something red, most of course went with fake blood. Hog Roast Marh wore a red apron to join in the fun.

Hannah had booked a heavenly Hog Roast with two salads and a potato option. Hannah played it safe with chips as her potato option thinking that sixteen-year-olds would appreciate it. Hog Roast Marh had convinced Hannah to substitute the mixed salad for a delicious tomato and mozzarella salad to go with her red theme. On-the-vine sweet cherry tomatoes are layered with creamy buffalo mozzarella, sea salt, cracked black pepper and fresh basil leaves and finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. It is a super tasty side dish. This was served next to the home-made zesty coleslaw.

Hog Roast MarhHog Roast Marh enjoyed seeing all the guest’s creative ways of incorporating red into their outfits. There was a handful of talented make-up artists that had done convincing open cuts with fake blood, Hannah’s daughter being one of them, apparently theatrical make up was what she was hoping to do at university.

It was a fantastic night where the food went down a treat!
